A summary of Bonnie and Clyde as acted by Key - Part 1

As most of you know camera's and recordings are completely forbidden during musical performances here in Korea...or anywhere really. Unfortunately Musical's aren't like concerts where you can wait (a century for SM to get their shit together) and they'll release a dvd. So here's a summary of what exactly it is Key does when he plays Clyde Chestnut Barrow in Bonnie and Clyde the musical.
I'll talk mainly about the second revised version of the musical as it's much better in my opinion. The original run of Key's musical was last year and in the 2014 version a lot of unnecessary things have been cut

The musical is set in the 1930's during the Great Depression in the United States. Now when Key first performed this musical way back last year, I'm convinced not many people knew anything about the history of Bonnie and Clyde. So imagine the poor fangirls great shock when the show opens to the sound of hundred of gunshots and the lights opening on Kibum, sitting with his head on Bonnie's, dead. In later shows his shirt was soaked with blood. Sets the tone for the show pretty quickly huh?

A tiny cute version of Bonnie appears as well as young Clyde and they start singing this interesting little number. I'm including the English version of the songs because a clear OST has been officially released and you guys can probably follow the plot better. Just...try and imagine Key singing and mentally scrap all the Texan accents o.O

Key jumps in at the end of this track; he's been arrested for car theft and him and his brother, Buck Barrow, are being taken to prison. Can we take a second to appreciate what it does to my heart when Key appears in this scene. He's dressed in well fitted pants, his button up shirt tucked in and sleeves rolled up to this elbows. And he's handcuffed and smirking like the attractive little demon he is. Key and Buck cleverly trick the prison guard and steal his keys, all while Key's singing this amazing little song with not only his younger self but Ms Bonnie Elizabeth Parker. As a side note; of the 5 women who played Bonnie I'm of the opinion Gahi was the best. Key and Gahi had sparkling chemistry and Gahi's voice is so impressive; I felt it was even better than the full-time musical actresses.

Bonnie is working at a diner and finishes her shift to find Key, freshly escaped from prison, trying to steal her car and flee to West Dallas. They proceed to flirt outrageously while Key convinces the naive young Bonnie that he's got big plans to be a famous heroic outlaw.

Bonnie: Is there some sort of problem?
Key: hmm the engine won't start. [as he hangs out the window with a suave smirk, eyeing Bonnie appreciatively]
Bonnie: Should I help you?
Key: How?
Bonnie: [kicks the front of the car and the engine comes to life]
Key: [cackles this beautiful little laugh and shoots her more appreciative looks] Wah who would have thought?~! You seem to know a lot about cars.
Bonnie: Yeah...this is my car [Bonnie's fetches a rifle from the backseat] Get out.
Key: [quickly gets out of the car, backing away and holding his hands in the air, showing off his beautiful pale fore arms, laughing and swaggering]

(Keep in mind that I'm only going by memory of what they're saying mostly ^.^)

Key bust's out the first move on Bonnie telling her: 'You're pretty when you smile', introducing himself as 'Clyde Barrow' with the most gorgeous little American accent I ever did hear (are American accents only especially cute when Key does them? o.O I think so~). Bonnie proceeds to 'shoot' him and Key falls backwards, clutching at his chest and crying for his 'omma'. It's spectacularly cute and Bonnie mocks him appropriately, because the rifle doesn't have any bullets in it.

Key sings that he's going to become an infamous outlaw and the world will remember him as something more than just a common car thief. He also sweet talks Bonnie by telling her she's too beautiful and talented to live the life of a waitress. All while swaggering around, getting in Bonnie's personal space (and very clearly getting her hot in the panties) and brandishing Bonnie's rifle.

Police sirens sound in the distance and Key scrambles frantically around stage trying to find a hiding place from police. He flattens himself against the side of the car, using his hat to hide his face, and lays still until the sirens die away before suavely re-positioning himself and casually confessing, with a gorgeous little smirk, that he's just escaped prison.

Bonnie, suitably charmed by Key's sweet words, bad boy charm and stunning amazing good looks agrees to give him a ride.

So, there are a lot of scenes that Key isn't in and I'll skip them for the sake of keeping this post a little more concise. It's already ridiculous as it is.

The next scene finds Key perched on top of Bonnie's beat up old truck, clutching a bottle of beer casually and destroying my life as he charmingly tries to convince Bonnie to run away with him. Bonnie is lying on a blanket, her clothes undone and Key goes and lies with his head on her back as she tells him she wants to be a famous actress and singer. Key excitedly bounces to his feet and playfully introduces her as: 'The sexy Bonnie Elizabeth Parker' cat-calling and chanting her name. She shushes him playfully and Key relaxes back on his forearms like a boss, sitting and waiting for her to serenade him.

Bonnie: How 'bout a dance~? What do you think of me~?
Key: [gazing at where her dress is laying open with rapture] You're good~ [he comments dazedly]

Key picks Bonnie up, twirling her around and slow dancing, their bodies pressed close together. He tries to steal a kiss and she dodges him playfully, so he smirks and gives everyone heart palpitations instead, back hugging Bonnie and swaying.

They proceed to make out. Now I know a lot of people seem to think that they don't really kiss or that it's a light kiss but nope. Key kisses her. On the lips. A lot. This isn't just pressing lips together. It's pretty certified making out.

I don't know who exactly is responsible for this little gem but whoever they are may Key's beautiful eyebrows bless you because holy sweet merciless Jonghyun is it nice:

Unfortunately in the second run of Bonnie and Clyde I don't think there was as much kissing which is kind of sad because...maybe I'm broken somewhere inside because I LOVE watching Key kiss girls o.O

Key pulls his braces off, un-tucking his shirt all while attached at the lips to Bonnie. He still manages to hold her around the waist with manner hands though. Like his palms pressed against her sides, fingers not gripping onto her. There's a scene change, all while they're trying to undress each other and never once breaking lip contact. Key picks Bonnie up, her legs going around his waist, before pinning her to the newly arrived couch and proceeding to kiss the life out of her, the entire length of their torsos meeting as he lies between her legs... Wow, ok stop; this is starting to sound like a bad smutfic o.O

It takes them a few moments to realize Bonnie's mum has walked into the room and she begins beating Key with her handbag as he hurriedly jumps off Bonnie and runs away, hiding behind the couch and then Bonnie. All while Key is hurriedly stuffing his shirt back into his pants and re adorning his suspenders. After some quick talking from Bonnie, Key hiding behind her nervously clutching a nearby mini guitar, Bonnie announces that it's her mom's birthday soon and Key immediately starts strumming at the guitar/ukulele as they sing 'Happy Birthday' in English. Bonnie's mom screeches at them to stop and an awkward silence descends on them which Key breaks by strumming at the guitar once and hiding behind Bonnie again.

Bonnie's mum demands that Key leave before exiting. Key bursts into hysterical laughter falling onto the couch and pulling Bonnie into his lap. They're about to start making out again when Bonnie's second love interest: a police officer named Ted, knocks at the door. Key completely freaks out and dives behind the couch to hide. Ted let's himself in and chats with Bonnie while Key meanwhile has put his shoes on his hands to aid in crawling across the floor and to the front door. Ted decides it's time to leave and Bonnie panics and pulls him into a kiss. Key, almost out the door, glares and storms back, trying to beat Ted around the head with his boots for kissing Bonnie, but Bonnie is frantically motioning for him to get out. So he flees.

The next scene Key shows up in is with his brother Buck. Buck is with his wife Blanche and Key comes to convince him of his brilliant plan: he's going to rob enough banks and stores to live happily in Mexico where the police can't touch them. The energy between Key and his on stage brother is actually always really different depending who's playing Buck. In the first run of the musical there was an older musical actor, called Lee Jeongyeol, who looked too old to play his brother, but Key had a pretty good chemistry with him. The chemistry between him and Kim Minjeong was pretty weird though. Kim Minjeong is a SM signed actor/singer who was quite famous. I guess he still is in certain circles? Either way the chemistry between Key and him was ok but nothing spectacular. It's the new run that's really awesome: Key seems to click really well with both of the new actors playing Buck.

Key and Buck sing this beauty, which is phenomenal because can we just stop for a second and consider; Key singing about cars. Key singing about how he loves cars and he feels like a complete man when he drives. I mean, it's not something in line with his usual image so I just find it spectacularly gorgeous seeing him in this role.

This is also the scene where we get to see our first glimpse of Key's real acting ability. Buck's wife, Blanche, and Bonnie appear and Blanche and Buck tell Key that Buck plans to go back to prison. Blanche wants them to start a new life together and they can't do that while Buck is fleeing from police always.

Buck: I'm going back.
Key: [Isn't really taking Buck seriously, is too busy wrapping his arms around Bonnie and playing with her hair] Going back where?
Buck: To prison.
Key: [bursts out laughing, and the sun shines and angels sing (rather inappropriately given the seriousness of the scene). He calms down and realizes Buck's not laughing] You're serious?!

Key does a really good job of this scene in my mind. The real Clyde was terrified of prison. He was violently sexually and physically abused, likely because of his quick temper and his young, good looks. Blanche is a good Christian woman and insists that Key and Buck can start a new life if they hand themselves in, do their relatively short prison sentence and are released again legally. Key plays a character that is incapable of seeing this rationally because the idea of going back to prison terrifies him. Blanche tells him he can start again and be a free man and Key lashes out, yelling: No matter what I do, I can't be free!

This scene is always really powerful; everyone falls completely silent when Key yells and manhandles his brother, grabbing him by the collar and shoving at him while Bonnie and Blanche try to break them up. Key gets so into this scene, his voice is so loud and well projected and a little spit usually flies because he's so angry with Buck. Furious, Key grabs Bonnie's hand and tells her they should leave. Bonnie tries to convince him that maybe finishing his sentence is for the best but he gets frustrated and slaps her.

Key: That's my brother's life. I wont go back! [He says this quite desperately, almost pleadingly, as he clutches at Bonnie's face]
Bonnie: No matter where you go, or what you do they'll chase you. That's no way to live- [Key slaps her - but it's worth mentioning it's the most pathetic slap I've ever seen. Key's a brilliant actor but he can't fake a slap to save his life OTL]
Key: Ya. Don't you ever talk to me like that again.
Bonnie: [slaps Key - equally pathetically] Don't you ever hit me again.

Key storms off stage and a new scene begins~

And I think I'll leave it at that for now. This is ending up a lot longer then I intended!

Let me know if you have any questions about the plot or Key's acting. I'm curious; is anyone interested to read the rest? I'm not sure it's too interesting a topic ^.^
